Modifiable, Ease of Use, Shorter Treatment.
Dr Clark developed the Twin Block Technique in 1977 in his orthodontic practice in Scotland.
We were this first technicians to visit the practice and learn about the new technique.
An infinitely modifiable functional appliance, built around heat cured acrylic blocks meeting at an angle of 70 degrees.
Patients eat and speak with ease whilst wearing the appliance, providing 24 hour compliance. This harnesses the forces of occlusion and mastication, leading to shorter treatment times.
Various Orthodontists have made their mark on the twin block technique, and adapted the appliance to their personal preferences.
Functional Correction of Malocclusion
Twin Block appliances are simple bite blocks that are designed for full-time wear.
They achieve rapid functional correction of malocclusion by the transmission of favourable occlusal forces to occlusal inclined planes that cover the posterior teeth. The forces of occlusion are used as the functional mechanism to correct the malocclusion for the treatment of Class II malocclusions. It was based on the same theory as the monobloc and Frankel appliance.
The appliance consists of maxillary and mandibular bite blocks designed to use the forces of occlusion as the functional mechanism. As the appliance was formed of two separate pieces, it could be worn full time and was more comfortable for the patient.
